RIMT University Hosts 8th Annual Athletics Meet 2025–26
RIMT University successfully organized its 8th Annual Athletics Meet 2025–26 at the university sports ground, with vibrant participation from students across various departments. The event featured high-energy track and field competitions, reflecting the university’s continued commitment to promoting physical fitness, sportsmanship, and holistic development.
The university had the honour of welcoming Sunita Rani as the Chief Guest. A celebrated Indian athlete and recipient of some of the nation’s highest civilian and sports honors, she currently serves as SSP, Punjab Police, and is a member of the Selection Committee of the Athletic Federation of India. Her distinguished career includes the Padma Shri (2001), the Arjuna Award (1999), and the Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Award (2006). Internationally, she has earned four Gold Medals at the World Police Games (2003), represented India at the Sydney Olympics in the 1500m event (2000), won the 1500m Gold at the Asian Championships in Bangkok (1998), and secured multiple medals at the Sydney World Junior Games (1996). She also achieved an exceptional tally of Gold Medals in 800m, 1500m, 5000m, and 10000m events at the South Asian Games held in Kathmandu (1999).
In her address, she highlighted the importance of discipline, endurance, and consistent effort in shaping both athletic and personal success. Her motivational words greatly inspired the young athletes.
The Athletics Meet featured intense competition across sprints, middle- and long-distance races, relays, and various field events. Among the standout performers, Sazim was honoured as the Best Athlete (Male), while Menina received the title of Best Athlete (Female) for their outstanding performances throughout the meet.
The Overall Championship Trophy was awarded to the Department of Nursing, whose athletes delivered consistent and remarkable performances across multiple events. The Runner-Up Trophy was secured by the Department of Physical Education, acknowledging their strong competitive spirit and achievements.
The meet concluded with a formal prize distribution ceremony where winners were felicitated with medals, trophies, and certificates. The successful organization of the 8th Annual Athletics Meet once again reinforced RIMT University’s dedication to fostering a thriving sports culture and encouraging students to pursue excellence both on and off the field.
