RIMT Agriculture Students Gain Hands-on Experience in Commercial Floriculture at Beauscape Farm
RIMT University, Punjab – Students of B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture from the School of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, RIMT University participated in an educational exposure visit to Beauscape Farm, Langrian. The programme focused on key aspects of commercial flower cultivation, post-harvest management, and export marketing. The visit was organized and coordinated by faculty members to provide students with hands-on learning and real-world insights into the floriculture industry.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to interact with Mr. Avtar Singh Dhindsa, the owner of Beauscape Farm. He shared his extensive experience in commercial floriculture and explained the complete process of flower production. This included the selection of suitable flower varieties, nursery management practices, irrigation techniques, and plant protection measures essential for high-quality yield.
Students were also given practical insights into harvesting techniques, with emphasis on picking flowers at the right stage to ensure maximum freshness and quality. Mr. Dhindsa further demonstrated post-harvest handling processes such as sorting, grading, and processing, highlighting their importance in meeting international quality standards.
In addition, he elaborated on export procedures and marketing strategies for sending flowers to European countries. He emphasized the significance of maintaining quality standards, effective cold chain management, and efficient logistics in accessing global markets.
Overall, the visit proved to be highly informative and beneficial. It provided students with valuable exposure to commercial floriculture, value addition, and export-oriented agricultural entrepreneurship. The experience successfully bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, equipping students with essential insights into modern floriculture practices and international trade opportunities.
