Agricultural Sciences students visit Fish Farm as a part of the Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme
As part of the Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) programme, final-year students of B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons.) visited Mr. Jasvir Singh’s fish farm at Village Karodian on 16 September, 2025. During the visit, students learned about modern aquaculture practices, water quality management, integrated fish farming and species diversification. Mr. Jasvir Singh also shared his experiences regarding the economic returns, marketing strategies and challenges of fish farming, which gave students valuable insight into aquaculture as a promising agri-enterprise. The practical exposure enabled them to link classroom knowledge with field-level practices of commercial fish farming.
The students were also attached to Village Ber Khurd, where they interacted closely with farmers, filled their survey questionnaires and gained first-hand insights into rural agricultural practices, socio-economic conditions and farmers’ perspectives on farming innovations. In addition, the students visited the farm of Mr. Gurmeet Singh, an innovative progressive farmer, who is successfully practicing organic farming on 15 acres of land instead he is also doing modern farming on 60 acres. The visit exposed students to practical aspects of organic crop cultivation, natural soil fertility management and eco-friendly pest control measures but also to the modern agricultural implements and machinery being utilized for large-scale farming. This provided them with valuable exposure to mechanization techniques that enhance efficiency, reduce drudgery and support sustainable farm operations.
These visits under the RAWE programme provided valuable experiential learning opportunities to the students, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical exposure. They also strengthened the student–farmer interaction, enabling mutual exchange of knowledge and promoting awareness of sustainable and profitable farming practices.
