Highlights of the Visit:
- Sculptures from Gandhara and Mathura: The museum houses an impressive collection of sculptures from the Gandhara and Mathura schools of art. The students were introduced to the distinct styles of both schools, focusing on the Gandhara’s Greco-Buddhist influences and the Mathura school’s indigenous Indian elements. This section provided insight into the historical development of Indian sculpture and its evolution over centuries.
- Miniature Paintings: Students had the opportunity to view various schools of Indian miniature paintings, including Pahari, Mughal, and Rajasthani styles. The intricate detailing and symbolism in the artworks sparked discussions on the traditional techniques, themes, and cultural significance of miniature painting, allowing students to appreciate the precision and dedication involved in this art form.
- Contemporary Art: The contemporary art section featured works from modern Indian artists, showcasing diverse mediums, styles, and approaches. The exposure to contemporary artistic expressions allowed students to understand the shifting paradigms in art, and how contemporary artists engage with modern issues through their work.
