Formation of Academic Council (AC)
- 1. Formation of Academic Council:
- 1.1.The AC shall consist of the following members:

- 1.2. All the members except ex-officio members will be nominated by the Chancellor on the recommendation of Vice Chancellor.
- 1.3. The term of the nominated members shall be two years.
- 1.4. Members at S. No. 6, 7 & 8 should be not below the rank of Professor, if the members of the rank of Professor are not available, then others can be nominated.
- 1.5. 2/3rd members of Academic Council will be quorum for the meeting.
- 1.6. Members other than ex-officio members, if loses his/her membership due to any reason, the next incumbent replacing him/her shall remain member for remaining part of the term.
- 1.7. The Vice-Chancellor, as the Chairman, shall preside over the meetings of the AC and in his absence any other member of BOM nominated by the Chancellor shall preside over the meeting.
- 1.8. The Registrar shall be the Member-Secretary, and in his absence, any other person authorized by the Vice-Chancellor may act as the Member Secretary.
- 1.9 A notice for the meeting of the Academic Council shall be given so as to reach the Committee members at least fifteen days in advance of the meeting and the agenda for the meeting shall be sent to members at least seven days in advance of the meeting.
- 2.The Academic Council shall exercise such powers and perform such functions as prescribed below:
- 2.1. The AC shall be the principal academic body of the University.
- 2.2. It shall coordinate and exercise general supervision over the Academic policies of the University subject to the provisions of RIMT University Act, the statutes, the ordinances and the regulations.
- 2.3. Subject to the provisions of the Act, the AC shall have the following powers, and functions; namely:
- 2.3.1. To co-opt members, persons having, special knowledge or experience in the subject matter of any particular business that may come before the Council for consideration.
- 2.3.2. To promote teaching and research and related activities in the University.
- 2.3.3. To make recommendations to the Governing Body on the proposals received from the different Faculties of the University for the Conferment of degrees, honorary degrees or any such other distinction or honour of the University.
- 2.3.4. To exercise general supervision over the academic policies and programs of the University and to give directions regarding methods of instruction, teaching and evaluation of research or improvements in academic standards.
- 2.3.5. To consider matters of general academic interest either on its own initiative or on a reference made by a faculty/school/department of the University or the Board of Management or the Governing Body and to take appropriate action thereon.
- 2.3.6. To make proposals to the Governing Body for allocating departments to the Faculties.
- 2.3.7. To make proposal to the Governing Body for the institution of fellowship, scholarships, studentship, exhibition, medals and prizes and to make rules for their award.
- 2.3.8. To recognize persons of eminence in their subject to be associated as research guides/ co guides in the subjects or interdisciplinary subjects as prescribed in the concerned regulations.
- 2.3.9. To formulate, modify or revise schemes for the organization and assignment of subjects to the Faculties/Schools or Institutes or Centres/ Departments, and to report to the Governing Body as to the expediency of abolition, reconstitution or division of any Faculty/School or Institute or Centre/ Department of the university.
- 2.3.10. To recognize the Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees of other Universities and Institutions and to determine their equivalence.
- 2.3.11. To make special arrangements, if any, for the teaching of women students and for prescribing special Courses of study for them.
- 2.3.12. To approve the syllabus of different courses/subjects submitted by the Faculties/ Departments and to arrange for the conduct of the examinations according to the Ordinances made for the purpose.
- 2.3.13. To award stipends, scholarships, medals and prizes, and to make awards in accordance With the Ordinances and such other conditions as may be attached to the award from time to time.
- 2.3.14. To publish syllabi of various courses of study and list of prescribed or recommended text books for subjects.
- 2.3.15. To appoint committee for admission of Students in different Faculties/Institutes/Departments of the University.
- 2.3.16. To recommend to the Governing Body, the rates of remuneration and allowances for the Examination work.
- 2.3.17. To delegate such of its powers to the Dean/ Chairman, as deemed fit.
- 2.3.18. To report or to make recommendations on any matter referred to it by the Chancellor or the Governing Body or Board of Management, as the case may be.
- 2.4. The Academic Council being the principal academic body of the University and it shall, subject to the provisions of RIMT University Act, the statutes, Ordinances and the Regulations and coordinate and exercise general supervision over the academic policies of the University.
