Course Overview

This Degree programme offers intensive training in processing and quality control of milk and products and engineering aspects of dairy processing equipments. The duration of the B. Tech. (DT) programme is four years. All courses are given under semester system. One academic year consists of two Semesters each of about 18 weeks duration. During seventh and eighth semester the students shall undergo In-plant Training on dairy plant operation and management at Model Dairy Plant located at Institute's premises and in any of the commercial dairy plants as organized by Head DT.

Eligibility and admission

10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English with at least 50% marks in aggregate (40% marks in aggregate for SC/ST & BC categories) excluding optional subject.

Note: 1. Candidate must ensure that he/she has studied same subjects at 10+1 & 10+2 levels. 2. A candidate who has studied/cleared both Biology and Mathematics at 10+1 and 10+2 level can also apply.

Curriculum highlights

The curriculum varies, from learning about Milk Chemistry, Production Management & Dairy Development, Fluid Mechanics, Engineering, Microbiology, Industrial Statistics, Economics, Quality Control & Assurance etc.

During each semester, students face different sets of theoretical subjects as well as practical workshops and lab sessions. They also undergo hands‐ on training and experiential learning campus training in various departments of college.

Job opportunities exist in the areas of Dairy Production, Processing, Management and Human Resource Development. Qualified students are absorbed as Dairy Extension Officers in the Department of Dairy Development in Govt departments. Many students are also able to go for Management studies and have successfully been placed as executives in many private and public sector institutions.
