Course Overview

Mathematics is one of the most enduring fields of study, and is essential in an expanding number of disciplines and professions. The B.Sc. ( Hons ) Maths programme is a versatile degree that provides students with the optimal balance between a defined sequence of study and flexible course options. This unique programme helps students combine their knowledge of mathematics and solve problems. They learn study essential topics in calculus, linear algebra and differential equations that can be applied directly to build applications in coding and cryptology, mathematical physics, mathematical biology, bioinformatics and finance.

Students gain a solid grounding in basic advanced mathematics - the core modules in the first year and a half of the programme. From then they can specialise. The study of the core modules is the prerequisite for the choice of options in the second half of the second year and many options in the third year. A large variety of interesting subjects can be studied, including geophysical fluid dynamics, mathematics in biological or financial contexts, number theory, probability and statistical applications, and geometry.

RIMT students develop excellent quantitative and problem- solving abilities and win a wide range of rewarding positions in the public and private sectors. There has been an increase in the number of students studying mathematics being employed in banking, finance, insurance and risk-management.

Students usually work in universities, scientific institutes, government or the private sector or go on to study advanced degrees. Typical job profiles include statisticians, research analysts, operations analysts, data analysts, business analysts and finance analysts.
