B.Sc. (Hons) Bio-Technology is a highly research-oriented field which is fusion of biology and technology. This study comprises an extensive variety of subjects – Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Immunology, Virology, Genetics Engineering, Food Technology and more. It is linked with other subjects such as: Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Health and Medicine, Soil Science and Soil Conservation, Cell Biology, Cropping System and Crop Management, Plant Physiology, Ecology, Bio-statistics, Seed Technology, etc. Biotechnology features the use of living cells and bacteria in the industrial process. The programme imparts basic knowledge and research skills of various elements of biotechnology, trains the students as per industrial requirements and to pursue higher education and inculcates entrepreneurial skills among the students so that they become job providers and not job seekers.
The B Sc. Biotechnology programme incorporates interactive teaching sessions, with 60% of time in laboratory training, weekly seminars on advanced topics and mandatory research project at the end of term.
One can become a Research Scientist, Production in-charge in the Food, Chemical and Pharmaceutical industry ,Quality Control Officer, Analyst (Venture-Capitalist) Environmental / Safety Specialist, , Bioinformists, Science Writer and Professor etc. The main job areas are in biotechnology companies, food and drink manufacturers, health service organizations, law enforcement bodies, universities and research institutes, pharmaceutical companies, conservation organizations, horticultural industries, agricultural industry, patent offices, environmental safety organizations, forensic labs and hospitals, as also medical laboratories.
